The group

About the group

Who we are, why we formed, and how we go about it.

Stronger Together, Lesser Garth is a group of residents formed after the flooding of 30 July 2026. We came together so that our community speaks with one clear voice.

Why the group exists

Many of us were dealing with the same things at the same time, on our own: damaged homes, insurers, contractors, and very little information about what had actually happened above us on the hill. Acting together makes that easier, and it means questions get asked once, properly, rather than twenty times over.

What we set out to do:

  • Bring affected residents together as one group
  • Establish what happened on 30 July, and why
  • Seek clear answers from the organisations involved
  • Reduce the risk of anything similar happening again
  • Support neighbours through recovery and the return to their homes

How we go about it

We want to engage with everyone involved, including the quarry. Our aim is to resolve the risk of further damage, help residents get back into their homes, and reach a point where the community and the quarry can get along as neighbours with mutual respect.

We are careful about what we publish. Where something has been established by investigation we say so and say who established it. Where we are concerned, we say that we are concerned. Where a question is unanswered, we ask it rather than answer it ourselves.

If we get something wrong, we will correct it. Please tell us.

Where we have got to

  • The committee was formed in the weeks following the flooding
  • Our first committee meeting was held on 3 September 2026 at the Gwaelod-y-Garth Inn, with Kiera Marshall MS
  • We are collecting photographs, records and accounts from affected residents
  • We are corresponding with the council, regulators and other organisations involved

Get involved
